Darby and his son Shakara come to Toronto in August 2015 for a 2 week Ashtanga Immersion. Ever thought of going to India to do a training or learn more yoga ? Where can you find the best teachers ? India provides an unparalleled atmosphere but you can find one of the world's most experienced teachers and best learning opportunities in midtown Toronto. Darby spends six months a year offering workshops across the world in India, Korea, Germany, Italy, Greece and France and now Toronto.
Darby began studying yoga in the early eighties with Pattabhi Jois, the founder of Ashtanga yoga. Often he and his soon to be wife Joanne were the only students in the room. In Mysore, India, the birthplace of modern Ashtanga yoga, he received an unparalleled education and training. In the photo on the right Darby is pictured with his wife Joanne along with Pattabhi Jois and his whole family. The small boy in the photo is Sharath, the current director of the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute.
Darby's thirty five years of experience and contagious enthusiasm make him one of the world's most senior and dynamic yoga teachers. It is a rare opportunity to study with an Ashtanga teacher so closely connected to the source of the practice who also combines insights from years of experience. Darby's early years in Mysore,India with Pattabhi Jois are described in the book Guruji.
